THERAPY
By signing up for therapy, you're already moving in a courageous and positive direction. Our lives and our world are peppered with anxieties, loss and periods of time when we feel our circumstances are insurmountable. River Counseling approaches therapy with warmth and collaboration to help you move forward with confidence and a sense of wholeness.
Some of our areas of specialty are anxiety disorders, relational stressors, leadership and identity development, perinatal and postpartum health, and adverse experiences or spiritual harm in faith environments.
We utilize a variety of resources, but most importantly wework with each client to tailor my approach to the goals and strengths of the individual and offer a safe place for self disclosure and healing.

Some of our training and areas of competency include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Couples Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT in particular is a value-based approach that offers a foundational framework which is client centered and flexible for supporting somatic integration.

Couples Therapy:
Some of my most meaningful experiences as a therapist come through supporting couples. Couples therapy is a facilitation of what happens in real time during session which supports communication and new patterns of behavior that can change the course of the relationship.

Walk-Talk Therapy:
Clinical research shows that rhythmic and bilateral movement can enhance cognitive processing and be therapeutic in and of itself. Additionally, eco-psychotherapy approaches taking place in nature offer the added benefits of boosting mood and helping with emotional regulation. Some even find that the less restrictive setting offers an ease of engaging in difficult topics. Walking sessions are offered at two locations in central and south Durham.

Fees and Insurance:
Fees and insurance vary based on the individual provider. Please see our bios for more information.
